Transforming Stories into Power

 Black women in America face higher rates of infertility, miscarriage, infant mortality, and maternal mortality than their white counterparts. 

The issues that lead to poor outcomes in reproductive medicine for Black women such as poverty, lack of adequate health care, and racial bias are rooted in America’s racist and patriarchal history.  

It is a growing belief that in order to address systemic issues that plague American society, and specifically Black American society, we must confront the history surrounding it. There is often a sanitized depiction of Black women’s lives in American history, especially in the realm of reproductive medicine.  

    This documentary hopes to begin to close the gap on our thinking of the history surrounding reproductive issues among Black birthing people by putting it's history at the forefront.
